10 Absurdly Hard DLC Modes You Never Beat

4. Master Mode - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Coming as part of The Master Trials DLC for Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Master Mode is in theory your standard additional difficulty: enemies are upgraded, tougher foes are more abundant and Link feels more outpaced than ever.

What’s different to this entry compared to most others on this list is the sheer time-sink. Since it’s an entire playthrough of a rather large adventure game, it can easily take 45 hours. You might know Hyrule well on your second run but things need to be taken very carefully on Master Mode. Players must over-prepare for every encounter to stand much of a chance.

Whilst all enemies are all upgraded by a tier, the real reason for this is that they all have regenerating health; from the lowliest of Bokoblin to the heftiest boss battle.

This means constantly staying on top of your opponent to maximise your damage output, cleaving through your resources quicker than ever. Whilst this can sometimes be avoided by playing smarter rather than harder (such as waiting until night to sneak-attack enemy camps), this can’t always be the case and the game becomes a war of attrition.

If you thought Breath of the Wild’s fragile weapons were a problem in the normal mode, then you’ll want to give a wide berth to Master Mode.
