5. Riddler Trophies - Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman’s long night in Amadeus Arkham's brainchild is laced with tense encounters featuring iconic
villains and frantic battles with crazed inmates, and as such was the first truly great outing for the
caped crusader on home consoles.
Joker hatches his most cunning plan to date, which goes off without a hitch, and series recurring cast mates are up to their old tricks, which makes Batman a rank outsider to re-establish order. If you manage to be as efficient as the Batman can be, the main story can be completed in a mere 10 hours, but that’s only half of the fun.
Riddler isn’t seen in the events of Arkham Asylum, but his footprint is planted firmly on the game’s hub world, 240 of them to be exact, in the form of luminous green trophies littered across the asylum grounds.
Each riddle solved feels like a small but significant victory over old Eddie Nigma, and as he mercilessly mocks Batman throughout it only adds to the desire to assert your intellectual dominance over him. While the collectibles are surely just a way to add precious replay value, the Riddler trophies always feel like a personal triumph.
