10 Amazing Games You Didn't Realise Aged HORRIBLY

9. Halo: Combat Evolved

There's an entire generation of gamers who have overpowering nostalgia for Halo: Combat Evolved - the game which not only put the original Xbox on the map and launched the beloved first-person shooter franchise, but also helped popularise the console FPS.

For its time, the original Halo is a sublime achievement, but played today? It's pretty tough going.

Even when playing the 10th anniversary remaster, the supped-up visuals can't disguise how incredibly dated Combat Evolved's level design fundamentally is.

The campaign is, for the most part, a repetitive assemblage of hallway shooting galleries, the same dull environments being recycled ad nauseum, as is of course no more apparent than in the infamous Library level.

Though there's nothing inherently wrong with asset reuse - just look at the Like a Dragon franchise - it feels especially uninspired here, with little-to-no attempt made to vary up the seemingly never-ending carousel of seen-it-before hallways and rooms.

None of this stops Halo being a benchmark for the genre, - again, for its time - even if it's nasically a stamina-depleting bore to play today.
