In real life the ocean is full of mysteries. There are parts of the 90% of the Earth covered in water that nobody has ever seen, the pressure being too great for any human being to have ever sunk to it and survived. Literally anything could be down there: the kraken, giant squids, whatever the big monster from Cloverfield was called, and possibly some answers as to what the heck the finale of Lost was supposed to be about. Well, definitely not that lost one anyway, because that simply can't exist. Plumbing the deaths of the sea around San Andreas is similarly rich with strange and interesting discoveries just waiting to be found, including one which appears to be a shout out to that dratted television disappointment. Underwater, on the eastern side of the map, is a white structure with a small rectangular window set into the top, which lights up when you approach it in the Submersible. At least, people think it might be some sort of reference to The Hatch from Lost. Logically, that structure was in the jungle in the TV show and not at the bottom of the sea, which means it could be something completely different. Maybe it's something else. Maybe there's some way of getting into it after the door lights up. The purpose of The Hatch, if any, remains a mystery.
