10 Amazing Video Games With Terrible Open Worlds

9. Far Cry 2

Elder SCROLLS Oblivion
Ubisoft

Far Cry 2 has a very devoted cult following who consider it the best in the series. It did a lot right: innovative mechanics that have yet to be repeated in the franchise, such as the Buddy System, whereby you could befriend NPCs who would spontaneously show up to help you in a fight, and potentially even betray you by the end. And the story raised some solid ethical questions.

Furthermore, the African Savannah was a beautiful location that has yet to be matched in the series. So what's the problem?

There just wasn't much to find in that beautiful location.

Sure, there were the diamonds you needed as currency, but you had a nifty gadget that lead you to them anyway. But by the far the biggest strike was the frequently respawning enemies that made travel an absolute nightmare.

Add to that the fact that most of these checkpoints were along roads, forcing you to frequently go out of your way just to save yourself the headache of clearing the same enemy outpost for the tenth time.

In the end, just trying to go from Point A to Point B becomes an unnecessary slog.
