10 Amazing Video Games You'll Never Get To Play

6. Fallout Online

Fallout Online
Interplay

What it was meant to be: The massively multiplayer post-apocalyptic experience we've all been quietly hoping Bethesda will announce one day soon, only, this almost real version was spearheaded by Interplay, the franchise's original owner.

Two of the series' creators, Mark O'Green and Chris Taylor, had a hand in the MMO's development too, which would have featured all of Fallout's trademark features as well as player-owned towns, guild support and item crafting. A few work in progress images surfaced during this time.

Why you'll never play it: Despite Bethesda having acquired the rights to the series in 2007, fine print in the sale rights meant Interplay retained the option of making an MMO set in the universe, albeit with a deadline attached.

Two years later, with its time up, Bethesda attempted to rescind Interplay's rights to develop the MMO, triggering a series of back and forth legal disputes until the two parties eventually settled out of court, resulting in Bethesda's acquisition of the license for a bargain $2 million.

Over a decade later, Bethesda's yet to put that money to good use. A continued surprise, given the relative success of The Elder Scrolls Online.

Granted this does point to a reality where one day, Fallout fans, we MIGHT get to experience the post-apocalypse together.
