10 Amazing Video Games You'll Never Get To Play
5. Star Wars Battlefront III
What it was meant to be: The continuation of Pandemic's beloved Battlefront series, only this time, TimeSplitters creator Free Radical Design would be piloting the game, following in its predecessor's footsteps by providing even more seamless land-to-air-to-space battles set on planets from the main film series and the now-defunct Extended Universe.
Leaked early alpha footage (below) promised more of the same and that was just dandy, given the stellar reputation of those that came before.
Why you'll never play it: In 2008, two years after the project had begun, Free Radical confirmed that development on the sequel had ceased, citing LucasArts' reluctance to spend big bucks on marketing as the reason why it was stripped of the license.
The plot thickened years later when an anonymous LucasArts employee told GameSpot that the reverse was true - that Free Radical missed several deadlines and couldn't commit enough resources to its development.
Whatever the reality, LucasArts never got the chance to take another crack at bringing the threequel to life. As we all know now, Disney handed the reigns over to EA upon acquiring LucasFilm and, well, the rest is depressing history.
A Star Wars Battlefront 3 we'll most certainly get, but it won't be this one.
