10 Amazing Western Movie Homages In Red Dead Redemption 2
1. Second Train Robbery Pays Homage To The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
There is no greater sign of love and appreciation for any western film in all of Red Dead Redemption 2 than the legendary train robbery scene from The Assassination of Jesse James.
Just like in the film, Arthur Morgan stands atop a makeshift barricade while the train emerges from the darkness. As it passes by some nearby trees, the light from its carriages reveals the other gang members wearing masks and preparing to attack. The train eventually grinds to a halt mere feet from the barricade and the gang fires their weapons as they climb aboard.
As they make their way through the crowded carriages, they brandish their weapons to the passengers and threaten to beat or shoot anyone who fails to cooperate. After robbing the passengers, the gang eventually make their way to the mailroom where they hope they have struck the mother lode.
What makes this homage truly stand out amongst all the others is the almost shot-for-shot recreation of the start of the robbery. Such care is put into this scene that western lovers will be able to spot it a mile away and be left with a satisfied smile on their faces as the cutscene unfolds.
