10 Ambitious Upcoming Video Games That Will Change Everything
5. Song Of The Deep
Despite being perhaps the smallest title on this list, Song of the Deep is no less important than the rest. Insomniac Games' charming tale about a daughter's search for her missing fisherman father is going to be big on heart, while also subverting a number of genre conventions that have been taken as a given for so long.
Putting players in charge of 12 year old Merryn, Song of the Deep will have us piloting her self-built submarine into the unusual depths to discover where her father has gone. This 2D side-scroller won't just have you dashing through small gaps and bopping enemies on the head to progress, however, and the exploring underwater setting will actually be a major, in-depth feature.
Players will have to add and improve elements of their gear and submarine to progress through the stages, and judge the effects that the water has on them at all times. It's a dangerous place, of course, but simple platformer combat is hardly a feature in Song of the Deep. Never before will a side-scroller have spoken so much to the heart while also asking so much of the gamer's brain.
