10 Annoying Characters That Stopped Great Video Games Being Perfect
4. Ashley - Resident Evil 4
Contrary to popular belief - and in disparity to a few others that have appeared on this list so far - Ashley Graham is not an annoying character because of how useless she is. Sure, it can get a tad frustrating when she acts as unresponsively as a gutted fish, but the entire mechanic around this area of the game is based on having to aid someone this helpless. You're supposed to feel somewhat frustrated and annoyed she can't 'keep up'.
What's really so annoying about Ashley is the apparently oblivious air she has to the world around her. As the president's daughter - yep, it's one of those stories - and a college student, you'd like to think Ash would be a little more aware, wouldn't you?
Her interaction with Leon is so limited that she seems almost blind to the fact that he's risking his life to help her. So while she's left screaming for help during each scuffle or ambush, you have to wonder whether a girl of her age and standing would really be so unable to pitch in with the odd "Watch out on the left, Leon".
Not only would this make Ashley every so slightly more helpful, it'd also help the player feel as though the efforts to save her wouldn't be better placed rescuing a really nice vegetable from being squashed instead.
