10 Artistic Things Video Games Can Do That Movies Can't

2. Moral Choices

Moral choices really lend themselves to great character building and storytelling in general. There is a certain amount of suspense and catharsis to be gained from watching a well-developed character on screen making a hard decision, but not nearly as much as if you had to make the choice yourself. That is a trait unique to video games. This is a trope that has yet to be explored fully - more often than not it ends up amounting to a "Do you kill this person or not?" question at the end of a lengthy boss battle - but it has seen some very complex spins on it that hint at future potential. Choices in TellTale Games' The Walking Dead on issues of morale, distributing food, or whether to save people by severing limbs are all gut wrenching choices that are much more difficult when you have to make them happen yourself.
