10 Awesome Horror Games Set In One Location

9. The Maw - Little Nightmares (2017)

still wakes the deep
Bandai Namco Entertainment

Before the sequel took players to a variety of equally creepy locations throughout the Pale City, the original Little Nightmares kept the action contained within The Maw.

An impossibly huge facility floating in the middle of the ocean, this setting is designed to look like a child’s nightmare come to life. As players guide mute, raincoat-wearing protagonist Six through each section of this strange place, the imposing size of everything around them makes players feel small and vulnerable everywhere they go. And that’s before they’re forced to play hide and seek with The Maw’s grotesque denizens.

Even more interesting than the striking art design is how the developers utilised visual storytelling to give players an idea of what kind of unpleasant things have been going on here. From the petrified bodies of others who tried to escape or sausage meat of ominous origins, each detail helps to communicate what kind of place this is, with each new discovery painting a more disturbing picture.

With its unique visual style and brilliant environmental storytelling, The Maw is one of the most memorably unique horror locations players have had the pleasure of entering in recent years.
