At the end of Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Alyx and her father Eli embrace in relief, yet moments later, Combine Advisors arrive, grab Eli and murder him while neither Alyx nor Gordon is able to do anything to save him. An Advisor is then about to also kill Alyx, but Dog dives in and saves her, after which Alyx cradles Eli's lifeless corpse and the screen fades to black. The End. As if this wasn't emotionally wrenching enough, to have a likeable supporting character die in such brutal fashion, it's been over 7 years since Episode Two arrived, and fans are still waiting for a resolution to this cliffhanger, either in the form of Episode Three or, as is now much more likely, Half-Life 3. It would have been a painful moment even if gamers had to wait the year-plus between Episode One and Episode Two, but with Episode Three now at least 5 years overdue, it conjures up a combination of feelings: sadness, anger and frustration at Valve for not at least communicating with fans about what's taking so long. Hopefully the wait will be worth it. Eventually.
