10 Awesome Super Mario Fan Theories You Had No Idea Existed
7. Yoshi Is A Pokémon
So, theres actually some evidence to suggest that Super Mario Bros. and Pokémon exist in the same universe, albeit in considerably dissimilar ways. In Pokémon Red/Blue, the following text box will appear if the player examines the NES console right at the beginning of the game: A game with Mario wearing a bucket on his head! will denote what's on screen, which is actually a reference to another game developed by Game Freak, Mario & Wario.
One particular theory suggests that this interaction substantiates the claim that Mario is actually a fictional character in the Pokémon universe. After all, the player does own an NES in the game, which suggests that someone, somewhere is responsible for creating the system, and also for developing games for that system. In later Pokémon instalments, the NES is replaced with the SNES, the N64, the GameCube and eventually even the Wii U, suggesting that every Mario game to date has been released in the Pokémon universe.
Now, if the Mario universe was designed by someone in the Pokémon universe then the former would have likely been influenced by certain elements from the latter. What does this mean?
Well, that characters like Bowser and Yoshi were likely inspired by Pokémon, which are the equivalents of animals in that particular universe. Yoshi for instance, does hatch from an egg like a Pokémon, and he has a mastery over certain special moves, such as the ability to turn enemies into eggs. He also demonstrates an almost immediate affirmation for Mario, who in this example would be a Pokémon trainer.
