6. Max Payne 3
It took about a decade and tons of studio mismanagement just to get a release date for this anticipated sequel, and many (like me) were very wary of Rockstar taking the reigns this time around. Sure, Rockstar has some of the best games of all time under its belt, but they had never really tried to adapt a franchise of this scale and format. No one was sure about this one. Plus, did you watch the movie? That was a piece of...well anyway.
How did it succeed against the odds? Rockstar managed to take everything we love about the character of Max Payne and successfully bring him into the next generation. Max Payne 3 brought back everything we wanted (bullet time, noir character growth, frenetic action) with some new flair, including the fun and dynamic setting of Brazil and updated game mechanics. It may not be the best Rockstar game out there, but it is easily one of the best Max Payne games.
