10 Awesome Video Games That Are Terrible Now
1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
It's easy to pick holes in the prolonged development time and the infamous split between Konami and Hideo Kojima, but that's not why I'm here today. No, I'm going to tackle something that really needs to be shouted from the rooftops:
Metal Gear Solid doesn't need a live service component.
Sadly, that's what MGSV was infiltrated with as a result, with its Mother Base and item development costs. Now, if you've been playing since day one, this wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience. The former can largely be ignored whilst the latter is pretty achievable if you've been keeping up with your side missions.
But for anyone jumping in now, it's one hell of a climb to get anywhere near the top tier equipment. Jumping into any of the PvP Mother Base stuff will be difficult and as the online part coincides with the "always on" weapon development, it'll be a severe disadvantage to anyone wanting to max their gear out.
Whatever happened to the days of "weapons and procurement OSP", eh?
