10 Awful-Sounding Video Games That (Fortunately) Got Cancelled

9. Super Mario's Wacky Worlds

Developer: Novalogic Year of cancellation: 1993 Super Mario's Wacky Worlds was planned to be a direct sequel to the much-loved Super Mario World for the SNES. Interestingly, the game was also set to take place on levels based on real locations on Earth, rather than the Mushroom Kingdom. It might not sound like a terrible idea, until you hear the platform on which the game was to be released. The Philips CD-i. This is the same console that saw the release of the only truly awful Zelda games, and it wasn't even designed to handle such action-orientated games as the Mario platformers. The controller was also notoriously tricky to handle, especially in comparison to that of Nintendo's first-party peripherals. Thankfully, Nintendo saw sense, and the sequel to Super Mario World didn't end up as a CD-i monstrosity.
