On the surface, The Sims franchise is wholly concerned with allowing players to live out their most opulent, lavish lifestyle fantasies, by building their own lavish abode and stocking it with every conceivable extravagance possible.

But not too far below the surface, The Sims is also a glorified murder simulator, allowing players to experiment around and kill off their digital creations in myriad ways both cruel and hilarious.

Several popular methods of death include starting a kitchen fire and removing the fire extinguisher, letting the Sims starve to death, or intentionally breaking the TV so it fatally electrocutes them.

But the one we've all done? Drowning.

Drowning a Sim is achieved by putting them in a swimming pool and then removing the exit ladder. Seemingly without enough upper body strength to pull themselves over the side to dry land, your Sim will eventually drown from exhaustion.

Though The Sims 3 did introduce the ability for Sims to climb out of the pool, this can be easily counteracted by just placing a wall around the entire pool, you monster.
