10 Awful Video Games With AWESOME Mechanics

8. Limb Detachment - NeverDead

There are so many video games centred around demon hunters and monster killers, it's nearly impossible for a new IP to stand out. However, NeverDead had a fascinating spin that should've enticed any fan of the genre.

Rebellion Development's hack-and-slash follows an immortal called Bryce Boltzmann. (Don't know if that name is ridiculous or awesome.) NeverDead finds extravagant and hilarious methods to incorporate Bryce's immortality into the gameplay, like when you have to continuously set yourself on fire to navigate through a dark chamber.

But the game's big hook is how Bryce can move around, even after being ripped to shreds. Watching the gun-toting warrior flopping around on stumps, using his own arm as a weapon, or rolling about as a disembodied head isn't just hysterical but badass.

Sadly, NeverDead's biggest strength is also its greatest weakness. Bryce's limbs detach far too easily, and the frequent need to reassemble his body mid-combat disrupts the flow of action.

At first, watching Bryce's torso wriggling across the battlefield is amusing, but it soon becomes laborious, especially with how derivative the rest of the gameplay is. At a certain point, you wish you could turn the mechanic off.
