10 Awful Video Games With AWESOME Mechanics

7. Sightjack - Siren

Superman Returns Game
Sony Computer Entertainment

After the success of Silent Hill, writer and director, Keiichiro Toyama, tried catching lightning in a bottle again, devising a new horror IP called Siren. The survivor stealth title centres around the enigmatic town of Hanuda, which is populated by monsters called shibito.

As can be expected from the Silent Hill creator, Siren gets top marks for atmosphere, characterisation, and story. Unfortunately, the game is let down by its lack of guidance, steep difficulty spikes, and sloppy controls.

Nevertheless, Siren is worth a shot, purely to experience the Sightjacking mechanic. All the playable characters can use this tool to jack into nearby shibito, seeing everything from their perspective. That way, you can pinpoint the position of collectibles and other shibito, allowing you to plan accordingly.

Once a specific shibito is targeted, it can be assigned to a specific button. When multiple shibitos are assigned, you can get the lay of the land with ease by switching between them.

However, your human character will be prone to attack while Sightjacking since they can't move, so you'll need to be wary while this mood is active.

If the rest of the gameplay was as imaginative as the Sightjacking mechanic, Siren could've been a classic.
