10 Awful Video Games With AWESOME Mechanics

9. Holding The Trigger To Transform - Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Although Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was disappointing, it wasn't as bad as the video game adaptation.

Even by movie tie-ins standards, Activision's third-person shooter is dire, thanks to the repetitive gameplay, unpolished controls, limited exploration, and insultingly brief story mode. (The PSP port is virtually unsalvageable, which is why it received a pitiful 37% on MetaCritic.)

Now, it goes without saying that a Transformers title's biggest draw is letting the players muck around with the characters' transformations.

That's why it's reassuring to learn Revenge of the Fallen pulls off this mechanic with flying colours. Autobots and Decepticons seamlessly transition between robot and vehicle modes during gameplay with the press of a button, even while leaping across the city, hopping onto skyscrapers, or in the midst of battle. The single mode is dull, but playing against a buddy in multiplayer is a blast, especially after finishing a devastating combo by turning into a tank or fighter jet.

If the rest of Revenge of the Fallen's gameplay was as tight as the transformation mechanics, this soulless tie-in could've been more than meets the eye.
