10 Beloved Franchises That Haven't Been Good In A WHILE
3. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
It's a pity to see Ghost Recon go downhill, considering the Tom Clancy brand is partially responsible for shaping tactical shooters.
The military property remained strong for the first decade, but went south when two clunkers were released back-to-back in 2010, Ghost Recon Predator and Ghost Recon for the Wii.
Of course, things could've turned around if Ghost Recon just released another great entry. Sadly, it never happened. Although 2017's Ghost Recon Wildlands went back-to-basics and boasted one of the biggest Ubisoft open worlds, nobody was impressed with the tedious missions or lack of innovation.
Against the odds, the follow-up was worse. Ghost Recon Breakpoint honestly feels like the developers threw in a bunch of half-baked ideas, hoping one of them would stick. (Also, shoving in NFTs, which are now defunct, was a terrible business decision.)
Just when it seemed like Ubisoft couldn't screw up any more, they announced a live-service battle royal called Ghost Recon Frontline, which looked like a carbon copy of Call of Duty Warzone.
Though Ubisoft had the common sense to cancel this doomed project, it's going to be a long time before anyone thinks of Ghost Recon again with hope instead of cynicism.
