10 Best Boss Fights In The Legend Of Zelda Franchise
3. Dark Link
One of Link’s greatest foes is simply: himself. More specifically, a dark, often blacked out, aggressive facsimile of his own likeness. Is there a deeper meaning at the heart of this iconic recurring boss battle? Maybe, somewhere, but more importantly it’s just a really cool boss fight.
The shadowy creature appears first in The Adventure Of Link, where he serves as the final boss. In one of many confusing aspects of the game, it’s never entirely clear why your dark doppelganger serves as your final test, but he makes for a fitting challenge to cap off this most difficult of Zelda adventures.
Better still is Dark Link’s reappearance as a mini-boss in Ocarina Of Time’s Water Temple. Here he acts as a true reflection of the hero, anticipating and parrying your attacks, and even jumping on the blade of the Master Sword in order to whack you one.
The battle takes place in an eerie, waterlogged room, an oasis in the middle of the dungeon. It stands up as one of the coolest fights in the series (it can also be hair pullingly frustrating until you work out the technique). A return of the character in future games would be more than welcome.
