10 Best Character Creators In Video Games
5. Spore
Spore’s gameplay may have been basic as bread, but the one thing that it did excellently was the character creation. Take control of an organism over millions of years, as it evolves, grows limbs, and leaves the sea to populate the land.
You’ll begin by designing a very simple single-celled organism, which you’ll then play as. Character creation is understandably limited here, but there is still room to make your amoeba your own.
Eat enough other creatures to grow in size and evolve legs, giving you more creative freedom with how your little character will look.
The more you interact with other creatures, and go hunting to find food for your growing family, the more DNA points you receive, which let you add more body parts to your creature. You will begin to unlock parts that can be used for increased defense, or attack power, or even just to create the dragon of your dreams.
After the creature stage, their design becomes permanent, but until then, the level of customisation that the game offers, especially when you consider that it came out back in 2008, is incredible.
The gameplay may not have been anything revolutionary, or even that great, in fact, but it was the fantastically wacky character creation that carried this game into the memories of everyone who played it. Even to this day, people are still creating fantastic and beautiful creatures, pushing the boundaries of this simple game.
