10 Best First Bosses In Video Games

In Hades, the Greek demi-god, Zagreus vows to escape the Underworld to reunite with his mother on the surface. Since he has to go through literal hell to get there, his journey will be far from pleasant. Starting off in the bowels of Tartarus, Zagreus must make his way through ten demon-filled arenas before progressing to the next realm, Asphodel.

Before Zagreus can move on, his path is blocked by Megaera. Even though she's the first boss, Megaera isn't going to make things easy. Not only is she the child of Uranus and the mightiest of the Furies, she's also Zagreus' ex. Since he dumped her, this Titanborn has a bone to pick with him.

After chastising her former half, Megaera launches herself at Zagreus, summoning witches, spike traps, and hellfire. As her health decreases, the demoness' attacks become more relentless and damaging.

Just before this brawl, the player should be excited about reaching Asphodel. But after Megaera mops the floor with Zagreus ten or eleven times in a row, our hero should realise he's probably not strong enough to continue.

Although fighting the same boss repeatedly can be tedious, that doesn't apply here thanks to Zag and Meg's entertaining exchanges. Because their dialogue keeps changing, the player gains insight into the pair's relationship and the going-ons in Hades every time they meet.
