10 Best First Bosses In Video Games
3. Ghirahim - The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword
In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Link's first major task is to conquer Skyview Temple. After reaching the dungeon's final room, the player is expecting to face some run-of-the-mill enemy.
Instead, the opening boss is the central antagonist, Ghirahim. The majestic demon makes an instant impression, due to his playful swagger and gleeful manner. When he taunts Link while licking his lips with his lizard-like tongue, you know this is a guy you love to hate.
Ghirahim is a fantastic introductory foe, since his strategy demonstrates the importance of the game's unique mechanics. Link's sword movements correlate directly with the Wii MotionPlus peripheral, so the player must be precise to land blows on their target.
Since Ghirahim relies on defensive combat, Link won't get anywhere by wailing on him. Instead, our Hylian hero must swing his sword away from Ghirahim's outstretched hand to ensure he doesn't catch the blade.
After sustaining enough damage, Ghirahim whips out a rapier, challenging Link to a duel. Once again, the player should rely on precision and angled attacks rather than hacking and slashing.
Not only is Ghirahim an entertaining combatant, he compels gamers to be more careful and strategic for the rest of their playthrough.
