9. Weird West

Syberia the world before
Obsidian

Weird West is not a perfect game. The camerawork is a little sporadic, the upgrade system could be better, and it's let down by a few technical issues.

But WolfEye Studios' twin-stick shooter is teetering with so many creative ideas, it's impossible not to be wowed. Taking control of a gunslinger, you navigate around the American frontier, pick up bounties, purchase supplies, and face off against wraiths, zombies, and werewolves.

But what really sells Weird West is its array of unique mechanics. It has a permadeath mode, so you can't just try again if your team gets slaughtered in an ambush. Once your buddies are killed, they're gone. Permanent effects also apply to your character, since your actions will carry over upon each playthrough after you respawn. Because of this mechanic, every mistake you make has consequences, forcing the player to strategise diligently on each mission.

Since certain elements are randomised upon each playthrough, you'll never have the same experience twice. Because of this randomisation, as well as the wagonload of sidequests, allies, and variances in performing missions, Weird West is a game that you won't be getting bored with any time soon.

Also, you can play as a pigman. No other details necessary.
