5. Syberia: The World Before

If you still have a sour taste in your mouth after playing the god-awful Syberia 3, fret no more. The fourth official instalment sets everything right. As before, you must venture to a fictional European nation as Kate Walker, where she encounters astounding automatons and takes part in clockwork-based puzzles.

But what sets this steampunk title from its predecessors is the emphasis on the story. In fact, the plot looks so engaging in the trailer, you'd swear it was an animated film rather than a point and click adventure.

But it's not just the plot and the characters that are enthralling. Every aspect of Syberia: The World Before is designed, not just to entertain the player, but to enchant them.

This can actually be a detriment, since you'll be so distracted by mechanical contraptions whizzing in the background, you can lose sight of your objective. Because the land of Ostherthal feels like a real lived-in world, you may wander around aimlessly, rather than focus on the mission.

That's right. The game's main criticism is it's too beautiful. If that's one of The World Before's only gripes, that's a good sign.

If you're unfamiliar with Syberia, this entry is easy to pick up by newcomers. If you've been a fan from the beginning, The World Before will make you fall in love with the series all over again.
