10 Best Historical First-Person Shooter Video Games
3. Battlefield 1 (2016)
The year 2016 was filled with so many futuristic shooters such as Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Titanfall 2 and Infinite Warfare, so when Battlefield 1 was announced it felt like a breath of fresh air.
Thankfully the final product blew the competition away by being unique from the rest of the pack, electing to take place in World War I. In Battlefield 1 players can use early 20th century weapons and combat vehicles from the time period, and spans from the Gallipoli Landings in the East to the bloody trenches of the Somme in the West.
Developer DICE made a huge gamble in creating a game that is set in the Great War, an era not as popular as WWII and Vietnam War games, in a time where triple-A futuristic shooters was most trending. While it is not the most accurate WWI game out there (fans of Verdun claims to be), it was credited in reinvigorating the interest of popular culture in the war. No game in history has done such a feat as Battlefield 1.
