Fortunately, I'm not alone in begging developers for more local co-op games, as some indie studios clearly share my pain.

One such "couch co-op" to emerge this year was PS4 and PC's Stikbold! A Dodgeball Adventure. It's a fun, fast-paced dodgeball game that sees up to four friends/soon-to-be-enemies inside circles in environments of varying absurdity. As the players compete to grab the ball and eliminate their rivals by hitting them with the ball, the environment plays its part as well.

Perhaps you had lined up the sweet spot in the middle of the park, when a runaway ice cream truck runs you down. Not realistic enough for you? Well then, what about a nice game of dodgeball of a rocking ocean liner, only for a whale to jump from the waves and squash you flat?

It's a fun, friendly game for all the family that really helped 2016 bring back the fun in local multiplayer.
