Reprising his role as the swagger-sweating womaniser of choice for the first time since 1983, Sean Connery's return marks one of the best portrayals of Bond as a character in his own game, regardless of which others would do the gameplay side of things better. Connery's enunciation and general manner of speaking has become the stuff of legend over time, with his portrayal of Bond being a firm favourite in the eyes of many fans that's never been beaten. Here the stakes were upped quite considerably to levels that even the original flick didn't reach - showing you doing such ridiculous things as tackling a helicopter inside a museum with nothing more than an automatic rifle, soaking up scores of bullets along the way. In the end though this was one of EA's best third-person efforts, built on a solid engine that an upcoming game on this list would pioneer the year prior. Thanks to pockets deeper than a philosophy major's final paper, the production made every silenced pistol headshot, tank detonation and one-liner ring out perfectly, the only thing that held it back was the more tactile feel of combat perfected in Bond's other efforts.
