10 Best Movement Systems In Gaming History

5. Super Mario Odyssey

Spider-Man 2 game 2004
Nintendo

One thing that a lot of people weren't expecting from Super Mario Odyssey was a really satisfying and technical movement system.

Nintendo sure love to surprise us. Although Mario games have always been lauded for their spot-on controls, there hasn't ever been a game in the series with such focus on getting around.

Several factors contribute to this but one of them is the fact that Mario finally has all of his moves in one place. All of the best skills return from Super Mario 64 and the introduction of some brand new ones really rounds the whole moveset out.

Of course, Cappy is the real reason why Super Mario Odyssey feels so good to play. Using Cappy as a platform for Mario to jump from, as well as using him to manipulate the environment, means that getting around is even easier than when Mario had F.L.U.D.D.

Combine both of these factors with the most precise controls in the series yet and you have a Mario game that truly perfects movement.

Jumping through portals, swinging through cities, destroying beings made of darkness and occasionally shooting a gun or two. I also write about games.
