6. Mario Kart 7
Astoundingly uninspired title aside, Mario Kart 7 is the definitive title of a consistently wonderful series. The six previous titles had all built up to this one, and while it may lack the innovation of its forefathers, it makes up for it by perfecting the cart racing experience. The single-player game is short and sweet, a lot of fun while it lasts. But everyone knows that Mario Kart is all about the multiplayer, and 7 doesnt disappoint. Whether youre playing locally with friends, or with strangers from across the globe, this game was made to be played against actual human beings. And online play is much more balanced than it was in Mario Kart DS (even though some d-bags still ruin the fun by snaking). Some may knock this game, and Nintendo in general, for not taking risks or trying anything new, and those complaints are understandable. But in this increasingly unstable world, its nice knowing that, along with death and taxes and blue shells, the quality of Mario Kart is one of lifes few certainties.
