4. Pokemon X & Y
Right now, we need to come face to face with a harsh truth: the Pokemon MMO isnt in development, and if it is, its several years out. Maybe one fine day itll be a reality, but till then, we have Pokemon X & Y to hold us over. Nintendo may not listen when we demand World of Warcraft with Pocket Monsters, but that doesnt mean theyve been deaf to all weve been saying about the series. The simplistic top-down grid gameplay of the previous games had its charms, but after playing Pokemon in 3D, its hard to imagine going back to basics. This visual overhaul is especially beneficial to battles, which feature battle animations much more varied than before. And while the online multiplayer may not be of the massive variety, its accessibility and fun make it a worthwhile break away from the main story. But the main draw of Pokemon has always been providing us the opportunity to collect as many strange creatures (many awesome, many awful) as possible. And with 69 new monsters, as well as over 600 from previous generations, the desire to catch em all has never been greater, or more improbable. Couple that with some great new features, such as Mega-Evolutions, and you have almost everything a fan could want from a Pokemon game. Now if only Nintendo will just let us ride our bikes inside.
