10 Best No.3's In Gaming History

5. Street Fighter III: Third Strike

As the third game of a third game, we were tempted to include Street Fighter III: Third Strike on this list on principle alone. Fortunately, Third Strike has more than numerology on its side to warrant its inclusion in any "Best of..." list. Over 20 years since its initial release, this is still one of the greatest fighting games ever made.

Admittedly, this writer came late to the Third Strike party, having only played it for the first time a few months ago. But playing it in 2022, two things are immediately apparent:

1) For a game old enough to drink across the globe, this is still a staggeringly good looking title.

2) Third Strike is plain old-fashioned fun.

For a game that's idolized as the zenith of skill-based fighters, Third Strike is still a good time for those of us whose fighting style remains "mash the buttons and hope for the best". The wonderfully fluid animation and crisp sound effects make each fight a joy to experience, whether you're dishing out a 10-parry counter or desperately spamming hadoukens.

If you've yet to dabble, don't let Third Strike's intimidating reputation put you off - this is still peak Street Fighter, and Street Fighter has always been a treat for even the most casual beat-em-up fan.
