10 Best No.3's In Gaming History

2. Xenoblade Chronicles 3

What a relief it is to be able to include this game on this list.

After redefining the JRPG with the masterful Xenoblade Chronicles, developers Monolith Soft seriously screwed the pooch with the follow up. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was a bloated, poorly written mess of cringeworthy characters and overwhelming feature creep that threatened to spoil the series' legacy.

Needless to say, it was with some trepidation we booted up Xenoblade 3 for the first time. Could Xenoblade recapture its former glory, or was the original game merely lightning in a bottle?

Well, let's put it this way:

One hour in, our fears were assuaged - were back at the top of their game.

Ten hours in, we were hopelessly addicted and loving every minute of it.

Over a hundred hours in, we're squeezing in every last sidequest to postpone the dreadful moment we'll have to say goodbye to Xenoblade 3's wonderful world and the characters that inhabit it. (Especially Eunie, who now dons the mantle of gaming's greatest Cockney).

More than a much-needed redemption for its developers, Xenoblade 3 is a masterwork that deserves to be spoken of in the same hallowed tones as genre greats like Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger. An unmissable triumph.
