Assassin's Creed has been an open world game since the very first title came out in 2007, but the reason the title tops this list is the most recent sequel, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. We mentioned earlier how the cowboy genre was a hard one for game developers to tackle. Well, the pirate genre has been even harder. There have been a few games over the years centered around pirates, but they have either been very simple or not too fun. AC4 built upon the naval gameplay introduced in AC3 and took it to a whole new level by turning your ship into a customizable beast and making the whole world one big ocean with numerous islands to visit for various missions and activities. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUs7qUzP4GU Sailing the open sea while fighting other ships, hunting sharks, taking out strongholds and going head-to-head with legendary ships from famous pirates could occupy hours of time without ever touching the main storyline. Your crew will entertain you with a variety of sea shanties, your fleet will earn you tons of cash with very little effort on your part and your reputation as a pirate will grow as you earn the respect of some of the most famous sailors from the Caribbean. Cameos from well known historical figures is a big part of any AC title, and Black Flag gave us just about every big pirate who stepped foot in the Caribbean during this time. A DLC featuring Adawale, Edward Kenway's first mate from AC4, expanded the story and gave gamers a more focused story about the horrible slave trading that was happening in the area during that period. Assassin's Creed has visited many time periods and various locales over the years, but it will be hard to beat the experience of sailing the Caribbean as a fearless pirate. These are just 10 open world game, but there are so many more out there. Which ones are your favorites and why?
