Ori is Microsoft's own super rare legendary item - one that if you stumble upon or see in action, you'll be hooked on forever more. Developed by MOON Studios from all around the world, this globe-spanning developmental experiment somehow managed to produce a cohesive whole, resulting in not only the finest platformer of the year next to Super Mario Maker, but one of the most visually stunning games of all time. The art style alone looks like what a Studio Ghibli movie directed by Guillermo del Toro might look like, and will be reason alone to see what each new unlockable quadrant of the map looks like, but that's before the pixel-perfect controls invade your brain. Super Meat Boy definitely reminded everybody of the joys (and pains) of old-school 2D platformers, and Ori invents a cool system of banking your power meter to create a custom checkpoint, essentially letting you decide where to respawn from if any given section is providing a challenge. Twin this addictive sensibility with the exploration factor and sheer variety in the world's design itself, and Ori is both an underrated gem, and the best looking thing on the Xbox One right now.
