10 Best PlayStation 2 Multiplayer Games

6. WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain

Whether or not you're into the macho melodrama of wrestling, it's hard to deny that wrestling video games are objectively a hell of a lot of fun. if you're not convinced, then think of them instead as free-for-all arena fighting games, with a rich 3D arena filled with different game modes, weapons, and big, butch characters for you to play as. THQ's (RIP) Smackdown series was arguably the finest hour for WWE video games, and the finest minute of that finest hour arrived with Here Comes The Pain for the PS2. While in many ways it was just a small improvement on its predecessor, it added a whole bunch of new grappling moves and introduced location-specific damage, so you knew which parts of the body to target during those bone-dislocating submission moves. The multiplayer variety on offer is phenomenal. You can have a regimented two-on-two Tag Team Match with your friends, or a down-and-dirty Fatal-4-Way in which all of you compete against each other. Or, if you've amassed 8 gaming friends throughout your life, why not all compete in a King of the Ring tournament? The Create A Wrestler Mode is fantastic too, letting you create your own lycra-clad, steroid-filled slab of man to take to the squared circle.
