10 Best PlayStation 2 Multiplayer Games

7. Pro Evolution Soccer 6

In the past two years, the Pro Evo series has been going through something of a resurgence after several years in the wilderness thanks to FIFA's dominance. But the PS2 generation of gamers will remember that there was a time when Pro Evo was king, and FIFA was just for the kids who wouldn't know a true footy game if it fired a driving free kick right into their balls. Pro Evo 6 for the PS2 marked the pinnacle of the series before it declined upon stepping into the next generation. It was one of the greatest PS2 multiplayer games, and the raw intensity of the matches is a feeling that even today's football games have difficulty recapturing. Where you'd be squealing in delight while playing a shooter, Pro Evo was a game of tense silences interrupted by occasional screams of anguish as you missed a golden one-on-one opportunity, or bellows of unadulterated joy as you scored that injury-time winner. There is a whole generation of gamers who never quite recovered from Pro Evo's fall from grace, and failed to adapt to FIFA's brilliant but decidedly different mechanics. It's only now in 2016 that Pro Evo has finally recaptured that form that won it the title back in 2006, and we can start dreaming again that it'll offer us memorable experiences like it did all those years ago.
