Yet another entry in a long line of underrated Tribes games, Aerial Assault was unlike any other shooter on the PS2, offering large-scale online battles despite the PS2's limited web capabilities, as well as high-flying futuristic gameplay of the Unreal Tournament variety. Game modes included Capture The Flag, Capture and hold, Hunter, Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, and took place on the largest multiplayer levels around back in those days. While the levels were usually barren landscapes in between two bases, they were easily traversable using jetpacks, which added a whole wonderfully chaotic layer to the gameplay. There are few feelings in games comparable to gliding across the landscape in Aerial Assault, then shooting an enemy out of the sky before landing gracefully on the upper floor of an enemy's base, grabbing their flag, and Boba-Fetting your way out the window back towards your base. It wasn't the 'Halo Beater' that many tipped it to be at the time, and the offline experience was virtually non-existent but Aerial Assault was well ahead of its time, giving a glimpse into the huge-scale online gaming that was to define future console generations. It's pretty much useless to play nowadays, but deserves to be remembered.
