10 Best Pokémon Appearances In Detective Pikachu
6. Greninja
Despite its massive popularity, Greninja is limited to a fairly minor role, probably in part due to the fact it’s a Gen VI Pokémon. As such, it’s the most recent creature to feature in any sort of meaningful way, and it’s definitely a good pick.
They’re cast in the role of villains, causing the accident the entire movie is built around. This doesn’t really do Greninja justice though, but thankfully around about halfway through the movie they get a bit more of a spotlight shone upon them.
Inside the research facility, they’re released and start to creep around the laboratory, stalking the protagonists. It’s a little like the velociraptors in Jurassic Park, except far too rushed.
If they dwelled on the scene and let a sense of dread set in, it might have proved too much for the younger audience. Still though, it would have improved the scene and probably boosted Greninja up the list.
As it stands, the ninja frogs make the best with what they get and feature in probably the most exciting action scene apart from the climactic battle.
They’re not perfect and they’re defeated a little easily, but they’re entertaining nonetheless.
