10 Best Pokémon Spin-Off Games You MUST Play
9. PokéPark Wii
There’s certainly more complicated and in-depth games on this list, but PokéPark Wii knows exactly what it wants to be. The game is good, honest, childish fun, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
The plot of the story is that Pikachu, Charmander, Chikorita and Piplup land in the PokéPark after a hot air balloon accident, only to find out that something has gone wrong with the sky crystals. Controlling Pikachu, you make your way around the park befriending different ‘mons until you’ve collected enough crystals to speak to Shaymin, Rayquazza and Mew.
The limited motion control on a Wii game, a lack of variety in the challenges and no connectivity to any other game are definite drawbacks though, and the story could’ve been punched up without losing the game’s charm.
It’s quite simplistic, but never suggests it’s not trying to be; the charm is in the personality of the creatures and seeing them interact in a way different to most games. The fact Bidoof is eager to help, Glaceon is standoffish and Ponyta is full of energy feels like the game perfectly understands its characters.
