Tetris has been a mega hit since it first debuted in the west on the Nintendo Game Boy in 1989. Since that time, Tetris has been remade, modified, redone, and re-released more times than any other puzzle title, which is how it found its way onto the PS4 as an exclusive title with Tetris Effect on November 9, 2018.

This isn't just another mod of Tetris to bring in the nostalgia factor from the 80s and 90s... this is a completely new Tetris title with advanced gameplay features and amazing music and graphics that completely upend the Tetris we all grew up with.

Granted, Tetris Effect does feature the standard play involving placing tetrominos into a playfield to complete horizontal lines, but the game offers a twist in the form of the game's title, which makes this version entirely unique.

New themes and music come into play more so than Tetris has had in the past with movements and gameplay that coincides with the beating music. Players can get into a "Zone" which allows for the placement of multiple blocks at once and even clear 16 lines at a time in what is called an Ultimatris. This is a great game for fans of old as well as anyone getting into Tetris for the first time.
