Online multiplayer is nice and all, but nothing beats the manic fun of local multiplayer, with three friends in the same room. Developer Matt Thorson knows this, as evidenced by his game TowerFall Ascension. A sort of mix between Nidhogg and Super Smash Bros, TowerFall pits up to four players against each other in local-only multiplayer. The aim is fairly simple; navigate across a small platforming arena while trying to either shoot your friends or stomp on their heads. It's a basic concept, spiced up by a multitude of power-ups, game mode variants, and a very high skill ceiling.
