7. Vanquish

Swapping out melee attacks for firearms, Platinum Games' Vanquish might be the most overlooked third-person shooter of all time.

Why?

Because everything here deserves to be seen and played by millions; its approach to combat being, "Yeah, Gears of War was good. But what if the characters had rocket-powered knee slides, slow-motion cartwheels and Street Fighter-style uppercuts?"

I promise you, short of Bayonetta doing this on a grander scale, there are few things as euphorically brilliant as mashing the attack button whilst your character goes hell for leather on a giant boss's head, only to send it soaring into the sky for the big finish.
