2. Ultimate Spider-Man

Let's get one thing out the way first: despite coming out after Spider-Man 2, the swinging and combat in Treyarch's Ultimate Spidey game pales in comparison. Both features are still great in their own right, but by dropping the physics-based system and instead putting the focus on animations, the chaotic gameplay of the second title is no longer present.

That was more than a worthy sacrifice however, as the release improves on its predecessor in pretty much every other area. The game's cell-shaded visuals are downright gorgeous, while the story takes the best elements from the Ultimate universe and weaves them into one of the best Spidey sandboxes ever.

It'll be more a matter of taste as to whether or not you prefer this release over Spidey 2 - as it comes down to which version of the web head you like more - but as a complete package Ultimate Spider-Man eclipses almost everything any previous game had to offer. Except for making you do busy work to unlock the next main mission. Screw that.
