10 Best Spider-Man Video Games

Onto one of the most played Spidey games in history, as with the landmark Sam Raimi movie in 2002 came a tie-in with all the trimmings. There was a sweet spot in the early 2000s where even movie games were actually genuinely solid (see also, EA's Lord of the Rings titles), and with the Web-Head's debut on new hardware, came a next-gen look at swinging between New York City's various buildings.

Where only only a couple of specific missions afforded you the freedom to dart between mission goals of your own volition (the game followed the events of the movie to a tee), Spidey handled very well, destroying gangs of thugs on rooftops before thwipping away to the next checkpoint.

You have to remember this was 2002 - the open-world genre was burgeoning after GTA III, and this outing predated even Vice City by a few months. It was all Spider-Man needed to feel like a great experience embodying the character though, and when you add on a fan-pleasing unlockable costume designed by Alex Ross and some of the best graphics on the system, this was one hell of a way to capitalise on the film's potential.
