10 Best Survival Video Games

7. Don€™t Starve

This top-down offering from the same brilliant minds that brought is Invisible, Inc. and Mark of the Ninja offers all the core mechanics you'd expect from a survival game, despite looking like something Tim Burton may doodle in his downtime. What makes Don't Starve stand out is its beautiful, eclectic visuals and sound design, which make the generic settings of most other survival games look drab by comparison. The procedurally-generated worlds are filled with awesomely designed creatures, which will happily feast on you if you make one wrong move, and shatter your dreams of building a self-sustaining homestead (a common goal in the game). Thanks to its huge popularity, Don't Starve has had its fair share of DLC, letting you play it across distinct regions like deserts and tundra, in different seasons of the year, and even takes you tropical island-hopping in the excellent Shipwrecked DLC. Don't Starve Together, meanwhile, lets you and a friend brave its weird Burtonian worlds together. If you want to pick Don't Starve up for the PC, you can find it DRM-free at GOG.com.
