8. The Elder Scrolls Skyrim: Dawnguard
It’s safe to say that Skyrim was already a massive game before its first major DLC, Dawnguard, but shifting the focus from fighting dragons to an organization dedicated to eradication of vampires was inspired.
Vampires were already a staple of the Elder Scrolls series and made their appearance again in Skyrim, but never to this level. The expansion allows players first and foremost to make a choice – fight against the vampires or join them in their quest to permanently blot out the Sun.
Choosing the latter opens up a whole new skill tree to unlock, that of a Vampire Lord. A wealth of new opportunities and abilities are now at the players disposal, from turning into a cloud of mist to sneak past enemies to summoning a gargoyle companion to fight at your side.
Player choice has always been at the heart of this renowned series, and it carried over to Dawnguard. Running around Whiterun as a Vampire Lord, feeding on everyone in your path is invigorating and this expansion feels like it was always meant to be a part of the title.
